A Tale From Two Cities
July 1, 2010
The past nine months feel as if it has been a whirlwind for me. I started a new job in September, which has been anything but easy. My social life and even dating habits have changed, and I am opening myself to new experiences more than ever before. I am also trying to finish graduate school by next year. Not to mention, I turned twenty-seven recently. As a birthday treat for myself, I decided to take a trip to New York City.
The last time I travelled by plane was in September when I went to Las Vegas. I had never been and my childhood friend was getting married. This was a wonderful opportunity to take advantage of. I spent two days there, and I really enjoyed myself. Seeing my friend after almost a decade, was the greatness in all of it. She was so different than what I imagined. I was different than how she imagined. It is an astonishing thing to grow up and see how others have changed. She grew up to be a lovely human being. The chance to travel to New York City was upon me. I took it. My friend returned to New York City herself after travelling across country for work. She is a Broadway actress who is on her way to becoming very famous. Jumping back in to travelling was more difficult than thought. I went from Virginia to NYC, then back to Orlando. It was a total of nine days yet it seemed shorter and longer all at the same time.
As she and I walked through the streets of NYC talking and laughing, I began to think about how influential we have been to each other. My memories consist of so many with her. It was as if we had to grow apart in order to grow up. We needed distance to change for the better.
Change is the theme of our lives. Change in careers, friends, residence, and our soul. It is easy to stay in the same place and not feel discomfort or pain. To just think, that the simple things in life are contentment. I wish in a way I was like that. I am never satisfied with my place in life. For a few months, but after that, I desire growth, I need growth. That is perhaps why I enjoy traveling so much. It gives me the time to analyze my life and the time to just breathe as I am a tourist. I made a joke in my twenty-fifth year that I was having a quarter life crisis since I was turning twenty-five. Now I am realizing, I have a quarterly crisis. I say that because, for a few months I am content and happy, then all of sudden, I am bored and restless. On the plane ride back from a trip to Las Vegas, I got to thinking about my life and all the events that have happened since my graduation three years before. I have accomplished so much, and I know there is more to come. Life is short, yes. But there are many extraordinary experiences yet to go through. The trip home from NYC I didn’t do much introspection. I suppose, because I don’t know what to analyze about my life. I don’t know what I need to change right now. It doesn’t mean I am content infinitely; I am just content right now. It did get me thinking, however, about the people in my life.
As we go through our lives, we meet people who impact us, hurt us, and inspire us. The friendships we had when we are young, may not be as useful as we grow older. To say goodbye, is not wrong. It is the necessary course of evolution. Perhaps with age and wisdom, that same friend may play a significant role in life again. It may involve a little thing called maturity.
Growing up, I used to think that all that mattered was love. Love could cure all. As I grew to be more jaded, I thought love mattered least. The foundations of life were based on money, success, and happiness.
Now, I know, all you need is love. I am not just referring to love in a relationship. I am referring to the love which makes me speak with softness, kindness, and to treat everyone I meet with gentleness and to aim for laughter as I go through my day.
Love for
Family. Friends. Animals. Strangers. Babies. Children. Co-workers. Trees. Flowers. Books. Business. Art. Finance. Dance. Intellect. Conversation. Silence. Laughter. Generosity. Beauty. Truth. Smiles. Travel. Water. Food. Air. Fashion. Poise. Humor. Strength. Education. Change. Spirituality. Freedom. Kindness. The Sun. Affection. Kisses. Hugs. And of course….
Yourself.
Love for understanding, patience, and kindness for self. Especially yourself. All you need is love.
It is neat how people appear at different milestones in our lives. Your trip to LV a few years ago and your trip to NYC this year are like little bookends to two life adventures, both yours and L’s, and I think it will be awesome for the two of you to reconnect in the milestones of life that are yet to come.
To have a milestone frequently is a good thing, even if it makes us uncomfortable in the time being. Here is to aiming she and I do just that

I generally make an effort to put in a number of minutes daily in order to search for enjoyable writings to keep on the top of the most useful leather furnishings in addition to leather-based goods resources. As well as the current leather styles.Even though leather-based know-how have evolved through the years, there is nonetheless absolutely no substitute with regard to top quality, regardless of whether its a leather jacket or a leather sofa. It was fantastic to come upon your website and the information on it. Best wishes.
I enjoy browsing blog articles myself. It is not often I find something I like. There are many great writers out there. I take it with the leather sofa analogy, that is what you are comparing me to?
